zero-price fix?

Hi folks --

I have a client who wants to be able to "sell" a couple of zero-price items
on her 4.13 store. Currently, if you try to check out with only a
zero-price item in the basket, you get a completely blank page after you
hit the Continue button on the OINF screen. I think this is a known
problem? I know I've seen this discussed here before, but I don't recall
the solution.

I found a free module to fix this, but it requires OUI, which this store is
not currently using. Is there a simpler/cheaper solution?
