OT: Combined listserv & discussion forum (again)

We had problems with our gmail address not posting to the list. If you go
back and read through the archives at

updated since 4/26/05) you will get the feel of most of the folks who
answer questions posted to the lists. They are not big fans of forums when
it comes to monitoring user questions. Your option of phpBB Mail2Forum
(M2F) looks interesting though. But the bottom line - Miva Corp controls
the list - it's their call.

OT: Combined listserv & discussion forum (again)

Thanks for the info. I have heard that listserv is popular with a lot of the
most active people here. I'm just suggesting potential enhancements to it -
not suggesting it be changed to only a forum. I'm hoping that Miva, the list
managers and list users see the value of offering a combined listserv+forum
interface to this excellent info. New options provide the benefits of both,
so would satisfy a much wider Miva user audience.

The nice thing about Mail2Forum (M2F) is that it allows listserv fans to
continue as with listserv, and forum fans to use the forum view. Users can
configure it to receive (and optionally reply to) every single post via
email like a listserv, or they can subscribe to topics of interest and post
directly to online threaded conversations. It sounds like it might keep the
listserv camp happy, and would pull in those who don't like the
old-fashioned listserv for whatever reason. I think this would be very
popular and useful to many Miva users. It's worth mentioning, anyway.

Has anyone here used M2F on your own site(s)?

Thanks also for the tip about probs with gmail. Miva support didn't mention
that and it never occurred to me. Haven't had any problems elsewhere.

OT: Combined listserv & discussion forum (again)

FWIW, this can be seen in action on www.civicspacelabs.org. Not that
specific program, but a module for Drupal which does the same. Very
usefull, except it doesn't keep the subject of the thread when you reply
on the forum so messages to the list sometimes appear disjointed unless
you group by conversation in Outlook.
