    Back ordering or advance sales

    Wierd.

My URL that looks like this:

    <A HREF ="http://www.ebirdseed.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? ">http://www.ebirdseed.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? </A>
    Screen=PROD&Product_Code=XXXXXX&Category_Code=YYYY YY

    Produces this:
    ----------------
    Fatal Error

Miva Merchant has encountered a fatal error and is unable to continue.
The following information may assist you in determining the cause of
    the error:

    Error Code: MER-DTB-00073
    Description: Product 'XXXXXX' not found
    ----------------

However, in admin.mvc, I can go to Products and view "XXXXXX" and see
all of its desc., attributes, etc. It behaves as normal.

In admin.mvc, I can also go to Categories and view "YYYYYY" and see
everything too and see that XXXXXX is assigned.

When I view the Category YYYYYY in my store, it is a blank page.

I am thoroughly prepared for a "Doh" moment, however, help is
    appreciated.

You can get into trouble with your merchant account provider for doing this.
I believe that Visa and Mastercard regulations require you to ship
merchandise within a set number of days from the time you charge the
customer's card (2 days, IIRC). If you can't ship within that time frame,
you are required to notify the customer and offer them their choice of a
refund or waiting for the item. You CAN accept a DEPOSIT on a "delayed
delivery" item, in which case, you're supposed to AUTHORIZE the entire
amount, then settle the deposit amount now, and the balance within 2 days of
    shipping the product.

Yes, they are charged at the time they place the order.

We've been using this method to do pre-orders and low-stock items for about
a year now and haven't had a single customer complaint. They know up-front
that they're being charged for something that isn't here yet. On some items,
the note is adjusted to say that the item they're ordering may take three to
    four weeks to be delivered.

    | That is a great idea. Is the customer paying for the item then?
