She's looking for a mod that adds more fields to the
customer record, not order specific. I haven't seen
such a thing but there might be one.

I just tried the Miva Merchant admin demo on their site; they use 4.20 for
the demo. Clicking on tabs refreshes the screens quite fast. I am
beginning to wonder if OpenUI could be the culprit here...?

We are. Don has over 1.5 megabytes of data configured
in all of the various screens of the store properties
page and when flipping between any of them, the store
seems to be loading the entire contents of every single
one of them to the browser even though only one tab
is being displayed. The view source on the resulting
page confirms all the data is there. So every time you
click, you have to pull down another 1.5 MB of data.

          Hi Adam,

Rearanging the screen display is rather easy when using the full
screen template system included with the OpenUI SuperMod (or the
          DynamicTemplate Engine).

You could use this module in conjunction with the OpenUI SuperMod
(for OUI) or the DynamicTemplate Engine (for MMUI) and arrange
the fields however you want by editing the screen.acnt.tmpl and
          screen.oinf.tmpl.

Both modules provide the same great template system, which effectively
separates the display portion of all Miva Merchant screens from the
logic. Every screen is an HTML template that you edit to your liking,
including the ability to utilize module tokens, etc.

          Regards,
          james

            Attributes

Check the miva merchant docs, newer versions of Merchant let you import the Attribute
template along with the product. However, importing through flat files (in our opinion)
should only be used when the store is offline or in development. There are too many
gotcha's with imporing to be used as an ongoing content maintenance method. That is why we
developed on offline content management system called StoreMan. (Although we also opted to
develop a process called attribute cloning instead of directly supporting Attribute
Templates. Attribute cloning lets you copy Attributes from one product to another or a set
of products. Those attributes are then independent of the "template" so they can be
modified independently according to need. Templates only work when the attribute is ALWAYS
exactly the same for all products. In our experience, this is not typical.)

              David,

No, the OpenUI Tab images are installed on the client's server and not
downloaded from the OpenUI.org site. In fact, the ONLY image that is =
              served
from the OpenUI.org site is the Stoplight graphics.

Lots of us have wanted such a module for at least a year.
I hope a developer will take the bait and make one. I'm
sure they'd sell at least a dozen copies on a pre-release basis.

                    Extra Customer Fields

FYI we are currently working on three new modules to extend our "Extra Stuff" line (sorry,
still working on a nice name for it - but in addition to Extra Product Fields and Extra
Screens). Currently under development is Extra Affiliate Fields, and Extra Customer Fields
and Extra Order Fields will follow shortly. The Customer and Affiliate modules will allow
you to place the new fields within the normal forms or display areas, as opposed to only
allowing them to be placed at the bottom of the screen.

                      Kelly,

Are you sure that no such software exists?

I am shocked. This is about the third time in the last
month that my world view about what software already
existed has been thrown askew. I thought that there was
already a plethora of choices for discounts, sales,
                      coupons, promotions, etc.

If you or anyone has a wish list of software features
related to sales, discounts, etc that you think are not
properly supported by the current market of modules
available please consider sending me your wish list. Or
for that matter any ideas at all on any modules for Miva
Merchant you would like to see. Or any standalone

There already is. The specific request was for automatic expiration of
sales items. The only exisiting option that would come close is coupon
                        redemption by weiland.

                          Can you automate sale prices?

                          Jeff,

I'm pretty sure that Kelly's right about there not being a discount module
for this. I've seen several people make the same request before and no one's
offered up a solution. You can achieve pretty much the same result by
offering a coupon that expires on a certain date and advertising the coupon
code all over your site but that's not the cleanest solution.

Since you asked about other module options as well, I'll mention something
I've been looking for for quite a while. I need a want list module that can
be set up on a per customer basis through the admin and that allows the use
of wildcards in the product code. The reason I need wildcards is that I deal
in comic books and have a different product code for each issue of a certain
comic and in each grade that it can be in. The last two digits of my product
codes signify the grade with the rest of the code indicating the title and
issue number. Customers routinely send me want lists but I have to keep
track of them manually since adding twenty or so product codes to cover all
the various possible grades of each book on the list to one of the existing
want list modules is simply too time consuming.

As an example, Batman #125 in "poor" condition has the product code
"2006812505". The same book in "near mint" condition has the code
"2006812594". I'd like to be able to add "20068125*" to a customer's want
list through the admin and have the system send an email to the customer
once an item with a code anywhere from 2006812500 to 2006812599 becomes
                          available.

When I've posted about this before, another user who runs a collectible card
shop indicated he was interested in this as well. I would imagine that many
store owners in a collectible market would also be interested since they're
likely to use a similar product numbering scheme, have identical items that
vary by grade, and have no way to immediately restock an item by ordering
from a distributor which makes them far more likely to receive requests from
customers than stores in other markets and therefore are more likely to have
a use for a want list module to automate things.

If you ever decide to put something like this together, please let me know.

                          Thanks,
                          Dan

Or

Actually one of my percent off by category modules does it too. You can
specify 4 trigger levels to vary the discount based on amount
purchased. Then you can set a date in the future for when the sale will
no longer discount the order. The discount occurs at checkout after
other discounts (coupons, etc) have been considered.

Good night y'all. It is 1AM. My how time does fly.

I realize that this isn't the same, but if I were in your place and
couldn't find a module that would do it better, I'd just do the price
changes in StoreMan. First I'd export the current product list into a
spreadsheet, which I'd make a backup of. Then I'd make price changes in
the exported spreadsheet and import back in. When the day comes to
change prices back, I'd re-import the spreadsheet back in. Of course, if
product descriptions or other fields have changed during the sale
period, I'd import spreadsheets of the old prices and new prices into
Access so I could then export a query that would have all the updates
                                plus the non-sale prices.

Not nearly as cool as having it happen automatically at a given time,
but a lot esier than doing it by hand! And if you had a lot of items
that need to have sale prices (that cannot be calculated based on a
percentage) this might actually be a lot easier than a module in Miva
(personally, I hate entering large amounts of data into Web forms).
