Well,
Perhaps. but given that it is Version 5 and not 4.x, that tells me its a
major upgrade.
And given that major upgrades mean a different beast - then its likely alot
of modules won't be immediatly available. But, like the developer of OpenUI,
people will see a need for something and create a series of modules.
I would wager that the major and minor developers - like Bill Weiland and
others - are activly working to do all they can to be ready when miva
Merchant V5 is ready.
This is what happened when KoolCat went out and Merchant 1.x came in. And
what happened with 4.13 to 4 compiled.

I think it will be needed for end-users by all accounts from the miva
conference "in my opinion". While pre-conference expectations were that
v5.x/template ui was going to be awesome for end users, drag and drop
layout, cool crap, etc., the reality is that it is going to be more
beneficial for developers/integrators to market their plug-ins, etc.
Merchant 5.x except for a few, plain vanilla features will be the same
situation where a developer's module will be much better than miva's. End
users that have been used to the awesome features of OpenUI with the ability
to do so many cool things without the purchase of additional modules will be
screwed. Many users will have to redo quite a few things (or do without
until someone sells a template for that feature) when they upgrade and the
OpenUI is not available. When you think about it, all the 4.14x+ modules
built for the OpenUI will probably take even longer to make compatible with
5.x and cost more for upgrades. Just a thought.

Since the Beta NDA is still in effect, I can only respond that many of these
assumptions are incorrect. The biggest fear most of us developers had was
that everyone would jump to conclusions without facts. So far I'm
half-right<G>.

If Darren signed the same contract I did - I don't think they can sue, as I
am not 'required' only to sell there, or keep items there. In fact, i have
removed items previously.
If he signed something different - well, shame. He should have read it.
If its another issue - then we should get those details, since he announced
the threat to begin with.

So to add insult to injury, they threaten to sue over removing something
they are obsolescing?
