    QB name vs Miva login

I believe that QuickBooks uses Name as the unique key and Miva uses the =
login. This makes sense. However, this creates a problem trying to =
look up a customer in Quick books. Is there any hope/chance/interest =
in having Synchro post the last name + login into QB as the name. For =
example, Tom smith with a login of tsmith ..... his QB entry would be =
    Smith (tsmith).... =20

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

    Thanks....

    Hi Dean,

Well, this can be easily done with the Custom Fields option in Miva Synchro
    v1.5.

      QB name vs Miva login

      Jimmy,
I thought you had a good solution but it doesn't do it. I got thinking =
      and then tried it....=20

In QuickBooks the "Name" is the "Customer:Job List" key. While your =
solution does assign the "Last Name" and "First Name" fields, it does =
NOT assign the "NAME" field. What I need is for the QB "Name" field to =
get "Smith (tsmith)" from your example below. Even better yet, would =
be for the QB "Name" field to get "Smith, Tom (tsmith)". This would =
then guarentee a unique key for QB and Merchant yet still allow for =
searching on customer name in QB. =20

Right now, there is no way to quickly find a customer during a phone =
call and be able to run various QB reports on them while they are on =
the phone and there is no way to quickly spot if the same customer sent =
in a mail order (manual QB search by last name and then entry) this =
month and did an internet order 4 months ago.

Do you have any other ideas or am I still missing something?

      Thanks....

      Hi Dean,

Well, you would associate the Miva Merchant Last Name with the =
      QuickBooks
First Name. Then, you would associate the Miva Merchant Login with the
QuickBooks Last Name. Now, it won't have the parenthesis around the =
      login,
but "Tom Smith" would show up in QuickBooks as "Smith tsmith".

        QB name vs Miva login

        Hi Jimmy,
Well this is bad news for me... I kind of understand this but I think =
Burns QBIMPORT product does in fact import such that the QB "Name" =3D =
"last name + login" so I am kind of wondering why Synchro cannot do =
        this as well? =20

I suspect that it is due to the "bi-directional" synchronization that =
Synchro is doing. This really is a problem for me... Can I make a =
        request?=20

I would request that you create a concatenated field that appears under =
the "Merchant" side of the Customer fields options area. This =
concatenated field would be equal to:

"Merchant Billing Last Name" + "," + "Merchant Billing First Name" =
        + "(" + "merchant Login" + ")"

(If the length looks like it will hit some QB "Name" field length =
limit, then just the Last name and login would work.)

By way of example, call the new field "Name:login:concat (Read only)". =
I can then configure my customer synchro to include the following =
        rules:
        "name:login:concat (Read only)" =97----- "Name" =97---- Merchant->QB =
        =97------ Creation
        "name:login:concat (Read only)" =97----- "Name" =97---- Merchant->QB =
        =97------ Update

I realize that it would be problematic if I tried to synchronize this =
in the other direction or as "both"..... either an error routine be =
implemented or a simple statement of "buyer beware" be issued by you =
        folks...

I certainly do not know the inner workings of Synchro but it would seam =
to me that you gather all the pieces during the synchronization process =
and to build the concatenation field would be possible.... but again, I =
am not the one trying to manage the code behind this.....

Is there anybody else out there that would see this as helping?

Does anybody have any tricks on how to "find" customers quickly and =
easily with QuickBooks and more importantly, "synchronize" customers =
that build different login names at different times or that you build =
from mail orders, walk-ins, phone orders, etc.? I "merge" all of these =
into a single customer record in QuickBooks as soon as I discover them. =
        =20

        Thanks.....

        Hi Dean,

I talked it over with Development and unfortunately, what you are =

          guarentee a
unique key for QB and Merchant yet still allow for searching on =
          customer
          name in QB. =20

Subject: RE: [scu] QB name vs Miva login

            Hi Jimmy,
Well this is bad news for me... I kind of understand this but I think
            Burns
QBIMPORT product does in fact import such that the QB "Name" = "last
            name +
login" so I am kind of wondering why Synchro cannot do this as well?

I suspect that it is due to the "bi-directional" synchronization that
Synchro is doing. This really is a problem for me... Can I make a
            request?

I would request that you create a concatenated field that appears under
            the
"Merchant" side of the Customer fields options area. This
            concatenated
            field would be equal to:

"Merchant Billing Last Name" + "," + "Merchant Billing First Name"
            +
            "(" + "merchant Login" + ")"

(If the length looks like it will hit some QB "Name" field length
            limit,
then just the Last name and login would work.)

By way of example, call the new field "Name:login:concat (Read only)".
            I
can then configure my customer synchro to include the following rules:
            "name:login:concat (Read only)" ------ "Name" ----- Merchant->QB
            -------
            Creation
            "name:login:concat (Read only)" ------ "Name" ----- Merchant->QB
            -------
            Update

I realize that it would be problematic if I tried to synchronize this
            in the
other direction or as "both"..... either an error routine be
            implemented or
a simple statement of "buyer beware" be issued by you folks...

I certainly do not know the inner workings of Synchro but it would seam
            to
me that you gather all the pieces during the synchronization process
            and to
build the concatenation field would be possible.... but again, I am not
            the
one trying to manage the code behind this.....

Is there anybody else out there that would see this as helping?

Does anybody have any tricks on how to "find" customers quickly and
            easily
with QuickBooks and more importantly, "synchronize" customers that
            build
different login names at different times or that you build from mail
            orders,
walk-ins, phone orders, etc.? I "merge" all of these into a single
            customer
record in QuickBooks as soon as I discover them.

            Thanks.....

            Hi Dean,

I talked it over with Development and unfortunately, what you are
            wanting to
do cannot be done. That Customer Name field in QuickBooks can only be
            mapped
to one field from Miva Merchant. We do not have the ability to map
            multiple
fields from Miva Merchant into one field in QuickBooks, which would be
required for what you want to do.

            Jimmy,
I thought you had a good solution but it doesn't do it. I got thinking
            and
            then tried it....

In QuickBooks the "Name" is the "Customer:Job List" key. While your
solution does assign the "Last Name" and "First Name" fields, it does
            NOT
assign the "NAME" field. What I need is for the QB "Name" field to
            get
"Smith (tsmith)" from your example below. Even better yet, would be
            for the
QB "Name" field to get "Smith, Tom (tsmith)". This would then
            guarentee a
unique key for QB and Merchant yet still allow for searching on
            customer
            name in QB.

Right now, there is no way to quickly find a customer during a phone
            call
and be able to run various QB reports on them while they are on the
            phone

order (manual QB search by last name and then entry) this month and did
            an
            internet order 4 months ago.

Do you have any other ideas or am I still missing something?

              Duplicate Names

I purchased Synchro several months ago and as of yet, have not been able to
get is to work properly. I do have a few questions, because I'm not sure if
it can actually work for some of the situations we experience. I have
              updated to 1.5.

How does Synchro handle duplicate customer names? If I have a customer
named John Smith in QB and a new customer named John Smith places an order,
besides having Miva overwrite the old customer, is there anyway to import
the new customer and have the old customer stay in QB as well.

Can I import 1 batch at a time?. Can I import 1 order at a time?

              Thanks,

                Hi Jimmy,
Well this is bad news for me... I kind of understand this but I think
                Burns
QBIMPORT product does in fact import such that the QB "Name" =3D "last
                name +
login" so I am kind of wondering why Synchro cannot do this as well? =20

I suspect that it is due to the "bi-directional" synchronization that
Synchro is doing. This really is a problem for me... Can I make a
                request?=20

I would request that you create a concatenated field that appears under
                the
"Merchant" side of the Customer fields options area. This
                concatenated
                field would be equal to:

"Merchant Billing Last Name" + "," + "Merchant Billing First Name"=20
                +
                "(" + "merchant Login" + ")"

(If the length looks like it will hit some QB "Name" field length
                limit,
then just the Last name and login would work.)

By way of example, call the new field "Name:login:concat (Read only)".=20
                I
can then configure my customer synchro to include the following rules:
                "name:login:concat (Read only)" ------ "Name" ----- Merchant->QB
                -------
                Creation
                "name:login:concat (Read only)" ------ "Name" ----- Merchant->QB
                -------

                Thanks.....

                Thanks.

                Jimmy,
I thought you had a good solution but it doesn't do it. I got thinking
                and
                then tried it....=20

In QuickBooks the "Name" is the "Customer:Job List" key. While your
solution does assign the "Last Name" and "First Name" fields, it does
                NOT
assign the "NAME" field. What I need is for the QB "Name" field to
                get
"Smith (tsmith)" from your example below. Even better yet, would be
                for the
QB "Name" field to get "Smith, Tom (tsmith)". This would then
                guarentee a
unique key for QB and Merchant yet still allow for searching on
                customer
                name in QB. =20

Right now, there is no way to quickly find a customer during a phone
                call
and be able to run various QB reports on them while they are on the
                phone
and there is no way to quickly spot if the same customer sent in a
                mail
order (manual QB search by last name and then entry) this month and did
                an
                internet order 4 months ago.

Do you have any other ideas or am I still missing something?

                Thanks....

                Hi Dean,

Well, you would associate the Miva Merchant Last Name with the
                QuickBooks
First Name. Then, you would associate the Miva Merchant Login with the
QuickBooks Last Name. Now, it won't have the parenthesis around the
                login,
but "Tom Smith" would show up in QuickBooks as "Smith tsmith".

                didn't

                few
things but just don't see how to "concatenate" the last name and the
                login.
That is, to set up the rule to have=20

                <customer billing Lname> +< login> --> <QB Name> =20

to yield in QB a customer name that looks something like --- Smith
                (bsmith)=20

Can you either point me to the area in the docs that explain this or
                give me
an idea how to do the concatenation? It is probably right in front of

Subject: [scu] QB name vs Miva login

I believe that QuickBooks uses Name as the unique key and Miva uses
                the
login. This makes sense. However, this creates a problem trying to
                look up
a customer in Quick books. Is there any hope/chance/interest in
                having
Synchro post the last name + login into QB as the name. For example,
                Tom
smith with a login of tsmith ..... his QB entry would be Smith
                (tsmith)....

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

                Thanks....

                  "name:login:concat (Read only)" ------ "Name" ----- Merchant->QB
                  -------
                  Creation

I realize that it would be problematic if I tried to synchronize this

                  Thanks.

                  Jimmy,
I thought you had a good solution but it doesn't do it. I got thinking
                  and
                  then tried it....

In QuickBooks the "Name" is the "Customer:Job List" key. While your
solution does assign the "Last Name" and "First Name" fields, it does
                  NOT
assign the "NAME" field. What I need is for the QB "Name" field to
                  get
"Smith (tsmith)" from your example below. Even better yet, would be
                  for the
QB "Name" field to get "Smith, Tom (tsmith)". This would then
                  guarentee a
unique key for QB and Merchant yet still allow for searching on
                  customer
                  name in QB.

Right now, there is no way to quickly find a customer during a phone
                  call
and be able to run various QB reports on them while they are on the
                  phone
and there is no way to quickly spot if the same customer sent in a
                  mail
order (manual QB search by last name and then entry) this month and did
                  an
                  internet order 4 months ago.

Do you have any other ideas or am I still missing something?

                  Thanks....

                  Hi Dean,

Well, you would associate the Miva Merchant Last Name with the
                  QuickBooks
First Name. Then, you would associate the Miva Merchant Login with the
QuickBooks Last Name. Now, it won't have the parenthesis around the
                  login,
but "Tom Smith" would show up in QuickBooks as "Smith tsmith".

                  Jimmy,
Humm... That is great.... however, I couldn't figure it out... and I
                  didn't
see how in the docs... can you give me a pointer? I looked and tried a
                  few
things but just don't see how to "concatenate" the last name and the
                  login.
That is, to set up the rule to have

                  <customer billing Lname> +< login> --> <QB Name>

to yield in QB a customer name that looks something like --- Smith
                  (bsmith)

Can you either point me to the area in the docs that explain this or
                  give me
an idea how to do the concatenation? It is probably right in front of
                  me
but I just don't see it......

                  Thanks....

                  Hi Dean,

Well, this can be easily done with the Custom Fields option in Miva
                  Synchro
                  v1.5.

Subject: [scu] QB name vs Miva login

I believe that QuickBooks uses Name as the unique key and Miva uses
                  the
login. This makes sense. However, this creates a problem trying to
                  look up
a customer in Quick books. Is there any hope/chance/interest in
                  having
Synchro post the last name + login into QB as the name. For example,
                  Tom
smith with a login of tsmith ..... his QB entry would be Smith
                  (tsmith)....

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

                  Thanks....
