Most Popular - Optics Theme

Looking at the Optics theme there is an area to list the "Most popular" products on the storefront. Since there is not an option in the ready theme product listing section for "most popular or best sellers" is this just going to pull any products out of the selected category (or all) or does it really pull the most popular products? I use toolkit to do this now but it would be nice if it is built in.

We have plans to add in bestsellers, newest and a few other filters in the next version of ReadyThemes. For now, it needs to be a category which you manually add/remove products from.
