Cloudflare is going to help you survive traffic spikes and outages, but if your server is not talking to Cloudflare at full speed, it will still appear to be slow.

And yeah I've seen some fairly wild swings in Lighthouse scores due to the state of the interconnects.

We don't use cloudflare, but in general I've seen the rating go up and down.

It looks like the rollout has been pushed until mid-June 2021 [ https://developers.google.com/search...age-experience ]. Smashing Magazine also published a piece [ https://mailchi.mp/smashingmagazine/...e?e=7b164cc7da ], see "3. Not Every Lighthouse Is The Same", with some interesting information on how the different services work.

How does one go about "talking to Cloudflare at full speed"? I must have mistakenly "assumed" that the intent of something like CloudFlare was to improve website speed as part of Google's overall demands.

Apologies lesliekirk , to be clear I'm referring to the inherent multipath nature of the internet. Not all paths are created equal and sometimes a connection maybe fast one time and slow at others. This will still affect Cloudflare, because the service will still need to direct the visitor to the originating server.

I'm fairly sure you are aware of this, I think I just phrased it poorly.

Naw, I'm just pushing my multi-tasking a bit too far. In the meantime, we are doing some testing with CloudFlare off - today's results seem to be fair but steady, nine of the wild fluctuations. Some thought had been given to converting to all HTML pages but Merchant Optimizer is EOL.

Perhaps tapping into the JSON API with a Static Site Generator could be useful there?

Well, Bruce, pay up, you lose. This stuff is an absolute mess to deal with. Google even dings you for their code.

When Google PageSpeed Insights is what store owners use (and want fixed) that's what you try to fix because it's what Google uses to tell them
