Top Dropdown Nav

Hello,

I am using the Colossus theme and cannot locate the Miva code for the topnav dropdown. I can see the categories to be included are "checked" on the "primary_navigation" Navigation Item, but where is the code that controls this section? In particular, the store has over 250 categories and manually adding and sorting each category in the "primary_navigation" is a major time waster. I would rather just go to the source code and change it all there.

If you highilight the navigation set and then click the pencil edit button you should get to the source code.

Hey Pete, any luck on getting the source code to do what you needed?

Yes, but it is not intuitive or easy. Frankly, I think Miva is making a major mistake with this code. I appreciate their rationale but it is code that would be great for large stores but it is too complex for medium and smaller stores. I just cannot justify producing a page with 4 times as much code to content, that I can produce, with exactly the same features. And as for having 36+ css files, don't get me started.

Brendan however, is convinced this is the way to go, so there is nothing else I can do. I will just have to work with it as it is an equally bad mistake to take a direction opposite to that Miva is taking, even if the Miva direction is ill advised.

Finding the source code for the nav is very unintuitive so I have attached 2 images.

The top level nav in Colossus is "manual" i.e. it has been created manually, in the navset "top_categories". So, you have to create your own, using this particular set as a base.

The rest of them are "auto" and it is only a matter of styling changes or additions (we put a few additional categories at the foot of the cattree).

It costs me nothing to phone the US, so if you would like a chat (I would, as I haven't been at the last 2 conferences and thus haven't seen you) email me your number and some times that would be convenient for you (late afternoon, early evening your time (we are currently 19 hours ahead of Florida time)).
