Miva entity in custom field is shown literally

I'm trying to use &mvt:store:code; in the text of a custom category field and it's just showing &mvt:store:code; literally instead of the store code. The custom field is a "text area" field. I've tried &mvte:store:code; as well with the same results. I'm trying to use the store code in a link URL.

Is it possible to use entities in a custom field?

Custom fields do not compile template code so you cannot use entities like that for display.
