Creating product attribute from basket item

I need to take the product codes from the basket content and turn them into a product attribute. I've got the easy part figured out, I can pull the product codes of the basket items into a drop down select, but how do I turn them into an item that becomes part of the attributes for the new product?

Checkout toolkit's dynamicattributebasket function. It allows you to add custom attributes to any product when it is added to the cart.
