First time that I had a chance to use this. Pretty handy (just needed to pull some records for debugging purposes).

I'm guessing here, but it would be critical to know in many cases, does the query Item "self-close" the view after running?

I'm 99.99% sure that all open views are closed automatically when a script ends. If the module doesn't include an MvCLOSEVIEW, the VM will take care of it.

I assumed that...what I was curious is does it self close after running the SMT in case you needed to open another view.

Just an FYI if you are considering installing this in a customer's store; that module (and sql query console), and similarly Toolbelt, allow a non-admin with page editing privileges to retrieve/alter/delete data with no record of the activity, including privilege escalation (by altering the Users table via SQL). I would make sure the customer understands the potential risks and agrees to them before install, as it could create liability issues. There would be no record of when or how the changes were made, data was exfiltrated, etc.

Yes. Wise words. (This is on a site that has well trained admins who never touch anything outside the Order Processing area.)

IMO, A similar note should be attached to the Search & Replace module (the SQL module does have warning on it).

The module will open a view when the query type returns a result set and if so all records are read into an array and then the view is closed. You can reference the source code for the module here:
