SoftGoods & External URLs - New Feature Update

Thanks again to our GREAT customers for this sponsored update feature!

Our softgoods module now supports URL vending:

NEW! - NOW SUPPORTS VENDING URLs! Your download file can start with "http://" or "https://" - when a user purchases a download served externally, the module will issue a 302 redirect to the download location instead of serving it from your Miva Merchant store!

The download link sent to your customer still goes back to your store, but instead of serving the file directly, the module will issue a 302 redirect to the real download link.

Disclaimer from the new install docs:
Simple validations such as user account and expirations are performed, however due to the way redirects work, customers CAN discover the final download destination and bypass this module. Please do not consider this a "secure" method of obscuring download URLs.

    Cheers,
    James

What is the reason/advantage behind this James, why provide a location to download rather than a link?

Re: SoftGoods & External URLs - New Feature Update

      Hi Rich,

There were two compelling reasons to add this feature:
      1) Customers asked for it, one was willing to sponsor it as a paid feature update
      2) It's just about the one feature in our Viking SoftGoods v4 module that our v5 SoftGoods module didn't support. Now there is a path for these users to get to Miva Merchant 5.

Personally I still recommend serving files from the Miva site. But ultimately I think most people who asked for this were trying serve very large files from shared Miva hosting plans that wouldn't support the bandwidth, large file disk space needs, or even the ability to do the split-chunking we recommend for large files.

      Best,
      James

James this is great news and I have been waiting for this upgrade. But I cannot find how to get in anywhere. I went to this page which shows the new version, but alas (sigh), no way to upgrade: http://www.mvtrocks.com/p-EMEDIA-ESOFTGOODS.html

At MvtRocks.com - you simply log into your account then you can see your order history and download again - if you originally purchased from MvtRocks.com.
