The module plugs directly into Miva Merchant 5, provides comprehensive tax calculations for your store including automatic determination of whether shipping or shipping/handling is taxed, and is automatically updated monthly while your subscription is current.

• One year subscription to the 1 or 50 state edition of TDS Basic zip-based sales and use tax database
• A Miva Merchant 5 Tax module for your store to calculate proper sales or use tax based on zip codes
• Automatic tax rate database delivery to your Miva Merchant store monthly*
• Additional yearly subscriptions for the tax database are available directly through Tax Data Systems, Inc.

Our system is different from other "SaaS" based tax calculation systems. All tax calculations are performed directly within your store based on the tax databases that are automatically distributed to your store monthly. Your ** note may make this a no-go for Washington State. We live with a convoluted system that requires calculation at a level beyond zip codes. If I recall we have thousands of four digit areas that can have different sales tax rates based on County, City, Local levies and tax policies (e.g. transportation). Thus, street addresses are critical to getting the correct rate. Have you guys researched Washington State?

Interestingly, most of the bigger merchants we work with are quite happy with the zip-based AS_Basic database from Tax Data Systems in spite of the known limitation that sometimes tax localities can span zip codes. I would guess they consider the differences small enough to write off, and report/pay the final actual tax based on the localities during their reporting process.

As this is our first tax service release, we wanted to cover what appears to be the common use case from merchants we already work with. TDS, Inc., does have an expended and complete tax databases that cover additional localities. If we get enough demand for it we'll definitely look into adding different database editions to the service.
