Hi everyone,
The MFA is gaining support in Congress and so many of us small online merchants are going to be affected and forced to collect and submit sales tax to over 9,500 jurisdictions in 46 states. The current criteria for a online store to comply is the store grossed $1M in gross sales the prior year. I know that just because the $1M threshold seems like it could be for a larger store with employees to support the extra time and costs for collecting and submitting the sales tax, I know that there are many many many very small online stores with few employees, even sole owners only, that gross on volume and COG are so high that they only eek out a living. The MFA will kill these stores.
Please join the "eMainStreet Alliance" and keep up with the grassroots coalition of small online merchants that are spearheading lobbying Congress to change the current bill.
Today's email from eMainStreet Alliance below:
A few quick updates about the Marketplace Fairness Act, our fly in to DC.
1. If you had indicated you were intersted in the fly-in to DC (June 25th and 26th) you should have received some correspondence from [email protected] over the past week or so. If you have not been in touch with Drex and you do want to go, you need to email him asap at [email protected]. Let him know you want to go to DC. He can send you Hotel info and a tentative agenda and make sure you are on the list. Looks like we'll have somewhere between 20 and 30 members join us in DC. The more the merrier. This will be an great networking opportunity as well as a chance to help shape this legislation. If you've already been talking to him directly on it, keep that up.
2. The Alliance is growing. We are at 425 members strong and over 300 of you have signed our letter to congress! Note: If you joined the Allianace and haven't signed the letter yet, you can sign it here.
3. Please reach out to your internet retailer colleages and invite them to join eMainStreet. Send them to this page http://emainstreet.org/join/ Talk to your vendors and ask them to reach out to their lists to spread the word. As a united grassroots organization we are already making waves in DC. Lots of buzz about us, but we need more members. When we deliver our next version of our letter to members of Congress, we need to have as many signatures as possible.
For the merchants, by the merchants,
