How does one go about purchasing a targeted physical business addresses mailing list?

Anyone done this in the past? What was your experience like? Did it pay for itself?

That's the thing, I couldn't figure out what association even to look for!

Something like "National association of Emergency Supplies retailers"?

perhaps, but I thought you where looking for business that could USE your services...for example, perhaps geological survey, or even small towns and cites...so you would look for organizations that support those groups. For example, there is a (not sure of the exact name) national association of small towns and cities (believe its > 20K people).

The might either allow list selling, or at least advertising in thier mailings (actually better).
