    Opinions on Miva?

The last post on this topic was 10 months ago, and things have likely changed since then.

We're looking at Bigcommerce, but our UPS rep had us take a look (and schedule a call) with a Miva rep.

    Does anyone have any feedback?

I don't know that a ton would've changed on this topic in the past 10 months, I can say that one difference is as CEO, I closely monitor the Forums to keep my pulse on our users needs/experience with Miva.

    Thanks,

Well, our store has been running on Miva since vMM3+ almost 20 years and we have referred few to Miva as well if that means anything.

I will say this and so will everyone else, Rick Wilson has been actively in the forums ever since he's been with the company and has replied to many questions and yes, even emails when needed, that is the kind of CEO he is, very hands on.

PM me if you have any questions any questions.

We've been on Miva for over ten years. Unlike a lot of our service providers with whom we have transactional relationships, I've always felt that our relationship with Miva is a partnership. They look out for the best interest of our business in the long terms rather than focusing on what they can do next week to wring a few more dollars a month from the relationship. Whenever I have a problem, their support team is on it immediately and they always bring the situation to a satisfactory resolution quickly. Their hosting is rock solid. I can't recommend Miva any more highly.

20+ years. Great product, great community. It's growth path has been well thought out, even if I don't agree with the current pricing model. You'll be tough to find something as elegant and functional. (I really miss Bill, though - we were both stationed in Orlando too long ago to admit to). Tough to go wrong if you understand what you need.

The "new" pricing model is now 5.5 years old

Do you have questions about Miva that could help you decide based on your specific eCommerce needs? There are a few like me that have been around using, promoting, and developing Miva store for a long time. Personally as a store owner then a full-time developer since version 1.5 in 1997. I've seen a wide range of uses.

Scott brings up a great point. Probably the best way for you to make a decision is to define your specific needs here and (and maybe on bigcommerce's forum too) and see what the response is.

FWIW, when we were evaluating which platform to move to, BigComm and Miva were duking it out for top spot. As I'm posting here, you can see who won.

For us the flexibility of the template system was what we needed. Our business, pet pharmaceuticals, is so specific that going to any platform that doesn't offer the vast and sophisticated customization that Miva does was a non-starter. That said, if your needs are less specific this platform is still worth your time. The support staff are excellent and the development team and community are very welcoming and helpful.

I'd say one of the biggest benefits I've seen in the current version of Miva (10 at this time) is the Template Branches. With this tool you can actively develop on the "production" site while not breaking the running store. It's like having Dev/Staging/Production all in one interface!

As someone who has worked with the Miva platform since Version 1, I can say that it's a platform for a growing business. There is great room for you to expand. Like BigCommerce, you can take Miva for a test drive with a Sandbox Store.

One thing that has stood out over the years with Miva has been the sense of community with the developers that work with the platform and with store owners. Each can come here to the forums and ask any level of question, even repeat the same question multiple times (like me) but no one will chastise you for your question. There is also the backing of the Miva Support Team. Through all these years my personal preference has been using the email support system. They have always been very responsive and extremely helpful. It sort of became an unspoken "truth" that if Leslie had to call support something was very wrong. Over all these years, it might be less than a couple of dozen calls. I've even had a couple of calls FROM support just to follow up on an issue. Now my mailbox might be slammed full of support tickets but that gives me something I can search through so I can try not to repeat myself. Yes, I'm gushing over the people who back up the product. And as you can see all throughout the forums Rick Wilson, Brennan , ILoveHostasaurus , Matt Zimmermann and even burch (all senior Miva team members) will answer questions here on a regular basis.

But as Scott ids pointed out, please feel free to ask specific questions about the application we now call MM10.
