Problem with eps vector image with transparancy

Nearly 20 years later of using PaintShop Pro graphic editor (latest version), I finally ran into something it could not do well.

I purchased an eps vector image file with transparency from iStock thinking I could use as a layer on an existing image project, but I can't.

Any suggestions short of someone saving this one image in another vector format that supports transparency other than eps?

I would gladly purchase another image, but it appears all these stock image vendors transparent images are now only in eps format, at least most of them.

Paint Shop Pro; that names brings back some memories. I used it for a long time, though I must admit I can't remember the last time. You still use it? Is it still supported?

Absolutely, Corel releases a new PaintShop Pro version every year (... the premium version "Ultimate" regularly retails for $99.99). Up until now its been able to meet all of our needs.

Just an FYI - this particular EPS had two layers in it. The clever little devils included a checkerboard background in it that would be included probably in every converter. It was discovered when the file was opened up in Illustrator. Are there any converters out there that would pick up on the layers in the image? Photoshop rasterized the image when it opened it.

Can you open the file in Illustrator and change the bottom level opacity to 0?

Or save as SVG and open in editor. Find rect and change fill="none" opacity="0" and delete the checkerboard layer.

Would saving it as an SVG save it with both layers? I just turned off the second layer with the checkerboard (in Illustrator) and then was able to save it as a transparent PNG.

Saving as SVG would save both layers so you would have to edit the file to delete the checkerboard layer and save the rect as transparent.

Changing the opacity to 0 in Illustrator is the easiest solution. Deleting the bottom layer in Illustrator won't work.

Illustrator isn't as easy to make transparent images as Photoshop is but I wasn't sure which tools he had to work with.

Sorry I was not able to chime in yesterday, our ISP had an area outage until this morning.

Due all these stock photo shops have the same "eps/transparency issue"?

I just remembered I have an old Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended that I forgotten about. I could try to install it and learn how to use it for just this one task, which I am definitely not looking forward to that. But if this is going to be a common issue then I have no other choice.
