input type tel

I added an input type "tel" to a contact us form. Used the pattern xxx-xxx-xxxx. Turns out iOS on the iPhone doesn't have the hyphen available. Otherwise the field works as expected. What would be the better choice?

I don't think there is a good answer available that would work for android AND ios. maybe compromise and do


pattern="[0-9]{10}"

You might also check to see if user agent string is carrying OS settings and do the

pattern="[0-9]{3}-[0-9]{3}-[0-9]{4}"

for andriod and the first one for iphone

[ids]

Checking the user agent would be a cool thing to do.
