Miva Merchant 4.x is more than outdated, it's literally obsolete technologically (it hasn't been actively maintained in 19 years, this would be like running Windows XP today) and should absolutely be no where near credit card or personally identifiable information.

I strongly encourage you to engage us or someone about upgrading to Miva 10.

I agree completely with Rick on this: you should upgrade to version 10 ASAP.

If you need some help with the transition, such as preserving data from the old store's database, I can help with that. I've been working with Miva Merchant since version 4.13 (uncompiled).

My miva 4 store is so customized that it's not a matter of simple data migration. I also do not like the direction that miva took with subscriptions on newer versions.

Pricing is based on store revenue (and other factors), but not how many products you have. You could find yourself in a security/legal nightmare without upgrading.

oh, we've been running miva 4 20 years without any issues. So if we do over $1 million of sales per year, how much does that cost? We have so many custom structures, URLs, pagination, navigation menus all custom through modules, even creating html pages instead of .mvc pages for categories & products all in miva 4. I got turned off by the subscription basis and enormous cost of migrating to newer versions.

I mean no disrespect, but you are biting off your nose to spite your face by trying to stick with Miva 4. If you are doing $1M in sales per year, migrating to a secure, versatile and super customizable version of the software is a sound business decision that will easily pay for itself. I have been working with Miva since version 3, and I assure you that things like html pages instead of .mvc have been available for many versions back. I highly recommend that you contact a reputable Miva developer to bring your site into current standards.

I actually am in the middle of having developers build a completely custom shopping cart platform for that very purpose. But in the meantime, we are looking for some temporary solutions while the involved and lengthy migration and development takes place. I first approached miva about a decade ago to upgrade to the new miva and the tech team was extremely expensive but also unwilling to handle some of the customization requests I made. They said they just mainly handle the data migration to the new miva and wanted to charge quite a bit for that, around $20,000 at the time (which 10 years ago was quite a bit for just data migration to a new build out). I was also turned off by miva's new subscription model because I felt it to be socialistic in nature, being based on a merchant's revenue rather than a flat fee for everyone the way it used to be (and it is used to be a one-time fee, which I prefer). I don't like the idea of being penalized for being successful and paying more than others. I consider that socialism. It should be equal for all. All of these responses are what I expected from the current miva platform ... just trying to find a developer who can handle some temporary changes to our miva 4x version while we build out our own custom platform. I would still consider miva 10 if someone can tell me the cost for $1 million+ in revenue and if we could do a custom build with the features we want.

No one here is trying to be disrespectful or antagonistic in any way. We're simply saying that it's dangerous for you and your customers. There's literally no way that a custom platform can match Miva's features. There isn't another e-commerce platform out there that has as much functionality, customization, and full-stack control as Miva has out-of-the-box. Miva has tremendous value, and their customers realize it. If I were you, I'd look into setting up a development store (or have a developer do it for you). That way, you can test the backend functionality and see for yourself the improvements that have been made over the last ten years.

Miva's pricing is on par with other enterprise-grade SAAS platforms (often cheaper). Which is likely significantly less expensive than building a custom platform/paying developers for upkeep & worrying about PCI compliance etc. Sure, you'll own the platform you have built for you, but there are many hidden costs associated with doing so. I've migrated clients over to Miva after having a custom ecommerce build, and trust me, they don't look back.

So how much is the cost for $1 mil+ annual sales? I'd consider it, depending if my customizations can be completed, with URL structures of existing store intact without 301 redirects. Ditto to what Leanne has said. I think you will find MM 10 easy to work with once you get over that "newness". Have you requested a dev site? You might want to just get yourself comfortable with it (on the side) while you are hashing out all the details of the nuts & bolts of your current site.

As someone who has been working with the platform since version 1 - it's come a long way baby! Is it perfect? Not yet, but Miva continues to strive for it every day. Do I still love it? 26+ years and counting!
