Search for category custom field

If I create a product customfield of type text with a unique value(s) ie 'group1,group2,group3' I can return all products that share 'group2' ie https://www.allfrom1supply.com/produ...?Search=group2 but I cannot do the same with a custom category field.

I guess the drop down search box is running two different searches(?) because when I type a search in the box ie 'test' it lists both products and categories.

Is there an easy way to have the search also include categories so I can return a list of categoriess that share a customfield value?
