Branch Templates and Navigation Set mock ups

    Team,

Before I get into this, I want everyone to know, I am not a web developer. So if I ask a seemingly obvious question, I apologize in advance

I have a question regarding Branch Templates. My Vice President wants to make massive changes to our navigation and categories. Before making those changes live, I was hoping I could make the changes in a Branch first without affecting the customer experience until we've critiqued the design and made changes.

Is this possible with a Branch Temple? Or if I make a change to the navigation will it affect all branches. I'm a little ambiguous on how branches work.

Please note, I'm not making any code changes or HTML changes, only changing Navigation Set and Categories

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Branch Templates are just to tweak the Page Templates. You can create a new Navigation Set and test it in the Branch Template. But any changes you make to the actual Categories and Products will be seen by the public.

lesliekirk Thank you very much for the info. That's kind of what I was afraid of. I'll work out an alternative

How do you create a new template branch before applying the Shadows ReadyTheme to the site?I just found out I am still using the basic readytheme on my website & would like to upgrade it. I thought I was already using the Shadows ReadyTheme because I had downloaded it at some point in time.

Shadows is being automatically included with MM10, so it showed up when you updated your website. To create a branch, go to User Interface, then look for something will look like this

          kHVmt7.png

This is where you will first create your New Branch.

But it just dawned on me - is your store MMUI or CSSUI - check that first.

If you are CSSUI you may proceed to apply the Shadows 2.0 template to your new branch. Do be aware that the templates does add a couple of categories.

If you have any questions, ask

It's CSSUI. When I upgraded from 9 to 10 years ago, I didn't like the homepage of Shadows and modified the Basic Ready Theme. I don't recall Shadows as being included with Miva 10, though. I thought the basic ready theme was what was included. Well anyway, I want to keep the storefront I currently have without changing it to the Shadows storefront page but want to have the cool way Shadows is presented in the product pages. Would this be a fairly easy undertaking?

Shadows uses an entirely different structure from the Base ReadyTheme (which is based on Bootstrap). While it could be doable, you'll have to make sure you look at the coding in the Global Header, Global Footer and HEAD Tag - there will be CSS and JS files that you will need. You can use the Branches to see the differences.

I discovered the hard way that the version of Shadows that was added with the update overwrote the version of Shadows a store I have been working on. Think I posted about that a while back.

I found this while looking for something and thought of you
Yes, the rumors are true. Shadows is now the default ReadyTheme in Miva 10. No longer will you have to wait for an update when a new core feature is added...it will already be there.
