EP Miscellaneous Fee module not working!

Emporium Plus Miscellaneous Fee module not working at all (tiny cart nor checkout). Can this be fixed?

Last time I looked Miva had no comparable solution, is that still the case? If so, what are my options?

Why this is not a Miva priority years later I do not understand -very frustrating!

Maybe I am missing something?

Here is why we use Miscellaneous Fee module.

We have over 15k unique items in stock, most items are not heavy.

We offer two shipping methods:

1. Miva's Flate Rate Shipping.
   1. If heavy item we use EP Miscellaneous Fee module to charge a heavy item surcharge based where its shipped to (US, or other specified country), or
2. Miva's Quantity Base Shipping.
   1. If heavy item we use EP Miscellaneous Fee module to charge a heavy item surcharge based where its shipped to (US, or other specified country).

Can this be done in Miva? If so, how?

If not, why not?

Update:

Shadows basket displays Miscellaneous Fee for one of the countries with no option to change shipping location. Was forced to disable option "Show fees in the basket screen" within Miscellaneous Fee module for now.

Need a fix, any suggestions?

The Miscellaneous Fee module is an old one from the legend Bill Weiland.

It might be a good idea to find another solution since it hasn't had updates in quite some time and has no support.

If you don't use the Handling Charge under Shipping Settings already, this can be done there pretty quickly depending on how you determine the fee.

Navigate to Settings > Shipping Settings > Settings

Scroll to Handling Charge and you will find this:

You can set it to Apply the Handling Charge "When Shipping Weight of Order Within Range", set you're range, Handling charge (fixed, %of shipping amount, or % of basket total), and Display and you should be good to go.



Another option is to use Miva's Weight Table Based Shipping instead of the Flat Rate.

We used to use the handling charge and flat rate shipping until we discovered the Weight Table.

It works similarly to the flat rate but allows for much more fine tuning based on weight.

It allows you to assign as many weight ranges/charges as you want for each Shipping Method.

It works really nicely and I highly recommend using it.

SidFeyDesigns, thanks for the tip. Don't know if that will work for us though, see Miscellaneous Fee allows us to assign a different surcharges at the product level based on where its being shipped to.

Unless I am missing something, its sound like your suggestions is at the global level, meaning applicable to all products, and we have many products.

Would this only apply to heavy products? Thus, only keying in the weight of those heavy products and not the majority of the products (15k)?

What happens when someone chose to purchase a a flat rate item along with a heavy weight item?

William Davis, both the Handling Charge and the Weight Table Based Shipping are based on the total weight of all products in the basket.

Differences:

• The Handling charge would be used alongside the Flat Rate Shipping. It simply adds a single charge once the basket falls between or is heavier than the specified weight range. You can only specify 1 weight range and charge.
• The Weight Table Based Shipping would replace the Flat Rate Shipping. It allows more control via multiple weight ceilings (ranges). You can specify as many weight ranges and charges as you need.

We just keyed in the weight of the heavy products, although we do plan to get through adding weights to all. This at least allowed us to take care of the heavy products.

If you have a heavy product (12lbs) and a light product (0.00lbs (no wieght entered)), the shipping charge will be based on the heavier product since the total wieght of the basket is now 12lbs.

This is why the Weight Table Based Shipping allows for more control.


Weight Table Example:

You first set an initial base rate (flat rate) and then add weight ceilings and charges.

As the basket gets "heavier", the shipping charge will go up by increments you set based on the weight ceilings.

You can set as many of these weight ceilings and charges as you want for each of your shipping methods.

So if a customer has multiple heavy products in the basket, say two 12 pound products, the shipping rate would fall into the 24lbs + rate.

Once you add the rest of your product weights it would work in the same manner. If you have twelve 1 pound products, the shipping rate would fall into the 12 - 23.99lbs rate.


Hopefully this helps explain things a little more clearly.
