Entering in-store & phone sales with "shop as customer" function

We are testing if we can enter our in-store at the counter, or over the phone sales, through Miva admin.
It is possible to do so by creating the customer (if not already exist) and then use the "shop as customer" function.
However, clicking the Shop as customer link, takes you to the website, away from the admin.
Then you have to jump back to Admin, use "review baskets" to find the customer's basket and continue adding products or create the order.

It would be much easier if a basket could be created right inside the admin, on the customer's page, without having to navigate the site.
Customer > create basket > create order> collect payment > mark paid & shipped - Done.

Patd265 Miva allows you to create an order from within the admin.

You could just go to Order Processing, create order then add the shipping/billing, order items, calculate shipping/taxes, apply price groups, then authorize and capture the order then ship. If you want you can even create an account for the customer then apply the customer account to the order as well.

      I should have mentioned.
It has to be a basket creation because of time constraints. It can take a while to complete at the counter or one the phone orders.
We use 4psite to manage all inventory and orders. About every 15 minutes, new orders are pulled into 4p. If we are in the middle of creating that order, it get's pulled in half finished or even without any product lines.
A basket we can keep open as long as needed.
In the customer dashboard screen, it would be great to have a Create Basket next to Create Order button.

Patd265 How are the orders being pulled in, through an Order Workflow? If it is done through an order workflow you can add a condition that won't send the order until the condition has been met. For example you could add a custom order field for these types of orders and when it is created fill out the custom field, then when complete empty the custom field so the Order Workflow can send the order.

If it is not using order workflows another option would be to use the Manage Quotes module. The Manage Quotes module allows you to create a quote, add items (give custom pricing if needed), calculate shipping/taxes, then covert the quote to an order. From there you can authorize and capture like a normal order.

          It's 4psite's API with Miva.
Not something we have control over.

Nick Managed Quotes would be a good option - but isn't it all "front end" until it's submitted?

lesliekirk No, the Manage Quotes module has an admin section that is very similar to Order Processing. Within that section you can manually create a quote and convert it all via the admin.

Ahhh....is there a video or documentation on how to use this (in admin portion) feature? Sounds like it could be a good replacement for the Phone-In order module.

Nick Actually the manage quotes option seems to work nicely for this. Will do some more testing.
                    Thanks for the tip

So we ran enough in-store sales through the site last week, via the create quote system, to determine it is possible but far from ideal. We decided to abandon this for now and keep using our old back-end system (outside MIVA).
Biggest issue is that there is not an easy way to differentiate in-store orders manually entered versus orders customers place online.
We really need some kind of POS system for Miva stores and there needs to be a way to keep those orders separate from regular online orders.

Pat, I have been begging for a POS system since I built my very first Miva Merchant store...sure there are a couple of cobbled-together systems, but not true POS system.

If you are in the Order Processing screen of the admin and select the plus sign to show more on demand columns you will see an option for Source. The Source will show how the order originated. The flag will display if the order was created from Manage Quotes, Shop As Customer, Shopper, or Manual.

For sure, that's a help to view on screen.
But then, as far as I can see, there is not an easy way to handle the data.
For instance, "Export orders to flat file", which could be a way to manipulate the data, does not have the order source field.

It's really all workarounds that solve a problem while creating an other.
