    Multi-Domain Store Question

I just had a question about the new Multi-domain, single store feature. I know the doc say this:

In the single store set ups, the products and categories visible in the Multi Domain may be limited to a subset of the original store, but there is no mechanism that allows a product to be visible on the Multi Domain but not in the primary domain. In this configuration, all other elements are shared between the primary domain and the Multi Domain, including Customers, Customer Order History, Pricing and Discounting and Shipping and Payment Configuration.
Would it be possible to use the Single Store setup with the primary store not actually used for anything but to store the product data and then have 2 secondary domain stores using a subset of the primary?

In theory, yes. It's not the intended use case so the challenge is you'd have to come up with a way to acheive "the primary store not actually used for anything". As the secondary domains inherit checkout shipping / sales tax / payment configuration of the primary, those must exist so you'd have to get creative about how to block users from accessing the primary.

Would domain forwarding work for this (i.e. forward primary store domain to a secondary store domain)?

I'm not following what you mean by Domain Forwarding here? The new Multi-Domain features in 10.09.xx should eliminate traditional "domain" forwarding.

Rick, I think what he is asking and the reply is the following:

Store 1 (primary but no website presence)
Store 2 (selection of products from store 1 db)
Store 3 (different selection of products from store 1 db)
forward store 1 to store 2 since store 1 does not have a web presence...

I am very interested in this as we have a parent company which does not actual sell anything, but we have 5 DBAs that all do sell items and they are all a little different. We centralize all of our systems in house with our own software and just have 5 different MIVA stores we check and update.

We would be able to roll out changes and store fixes so much faster with 1 central MIVA db

Rick is there anyone I can talk to one on one about setting something up??

          Thanks

Got it, so yeah that can be done.

The easiest way to do that would be: www.mainconoshopping.com where your Primary Miva site is located from an Admin standpoint but you just put up a static website instead of a shopping website.

Then you could setup Multi-Domain Store 1 with a selection of products from MainCoNoShop and Multi-Domain Store 2 with a different selection of products from MainCoNoShop.

I'm doing an Ask Wayne webinar on the 18th at 11 AM Pacific that'll show this off in action and have a Q&A.

Rick Thanks for the Webinar, it was helpful. I forget to ask how the emails work. The Documentation shows order confirmations will be per domain but scheduled tasks are not. We use SendGrid on each site right now, will we be able to send all the order emails out from each domain. Order Confirmation, Back Order Notice, Shipment Shipped, Card Processing Failures, etc?? It is not clear if these are scheduled tasks as many are automated but tied to the order specifically. If we can send emails for each domain how do we assign the SendGrid account for each one?

              Thanks
