Malf Log : What Is It Good For?

Hi there, Everyone:

Is there any benefit to having the Malf.log enabled in merchant, and if so, is there some free software that you recommend for reading / analyzing it?

And while we are on the subject of logs, what do you recommend for reading / analyzing the standard apache logs. I do have google analytics installed, so I am not sure whether goign through the apache / malf logs is worth it or not...

Its also good for taking up disk space with useless log information and if it hits 2 gigs it will break your store.

Used to be of some limited use way back when. You could import the log into a spreadsheet or Access and get some basic statistics. There was even a module for "reading" it as I remember. Nowadays with Google Analytics, as well as the fact that better reporting mods like Pulse store their own log data, it truly has lost its use.

Sorry to bring this up... I have a huge malf.log file. Can I just delete it via FTP or is there a better way to get rid of this and/or disable?

Delete it via FTP like any other file. Remember to disable it under Logging Configuration in your store so it doesn't come back and keep growing again.
