Using Template Based Emails for a custom follow-up

We've set up a custom template based email to use as a follow up email. You know, to check in with customers to make sure they're satisfied and provide a link to leave a review or order again.

But we're stuck. While we can send the email manually to individual orders one at a time, is it possible to import a selection of orders that will trigger the email to be sent to these customers? Or set it up to email a certain number of days after the order ships? Anything?

    Thanks,
    Mark

A simple solution would be to use the Follow-on Contact module. http://www.emporiumplus.com/1AA00085.html

Re: Using Template Based Emails for a custom follow-up

If you need the email to be sent automatically X number of days after the order is placed, follow on contact is your best option.

If you're ok with manually triggering the email, it is possible to write a batch report where you select a group of orders, and run a batch report on them. In the report you can use a function of toolkit called smtp which will trigger an email to be sent for each of the orders.

As of now you can't trigger the built in Template based emails via the template code but that feature is on our radar to be added to the core software.

I will second Brennan Heyde's comment regarding Bill Weiland's Follow On Contact module. It works great. We have ours set for 7 days after an order in placed. Since 95% of our order ship next business day most of the the customer has received the order. If the customer has not received the order they will respond and we can start tracking to see what happen.

Re: Using Template Based Emails for a custom follow-up

            Hi folks --

Since we're on this topic, I should mention that I'm just putting finishing touches on a more advanced follow-up module. The idea is to make it easier for customers to reorder the items they bought.

            - The module lets you set a number of days for each product, to send the follow-up email about the time that the customer is running out. You can specify different numbers based on the product attribute: e.g. send the email in 10 days for Small, 20 days for Medium, or 30 days for Large. The module also accounts for quantity; e.g if a customer buys qty. 3 of an item with a 7-day setting, the module will send the follow-up email after 21 days.

            - If a customer has several follow-ups due within a short period of time, the module will consolidate them into a single email. An admin setting controls the size of the "window" for this.

            - The emails include links that will drop the items right into the customer's basket, with the same attribute selections as the original purchase. If there are several items in the email, there will be a single link to put them all in the basket with one click.

            - The module can be run by a cron job to send the emails automatically. It also has an admin page that lets you view the queue of scheduled emails, and delete or re-send them when needed.

            - Customers can opt out of the follow-up service by clicking a link. Admin pages let you manually view, add, or delete opt-outs. This feature works for customers with or without an account.

This module is a custom project for a single client, but if anyone else is interested, drop me a line.

            Thanks --

Hi Kent. Is this module something that is available now? I don't know if any of Miva's new functionality has made this module obsolete, but it sounds like just what we need. Thanks!

Yes, the module is available. I haven't heard from the client in a while, but I was in touch with them as recently as 2015, and the module made the transition to version 9 without problems.
