No the default is the top choice and if you use our default link structure you should never run into the problem you're running into. All secure was a preparation for when then becomes the standard and the middle option was a fallback in cases like yours.

For the past 3 years I have had everything able to run on https (that is, if currently on https, all links stay on https), but it was possible to stay on http until sign in or checkout. (IE 6 was forced to https, due to security alerts, but that segment is nearly insignificant now.)

Was there a change in the Miva Merchant Cookie Output setting when we upgraded (a month ago) from PR6 to PR8? It looks like another likely culprit is that Google has defaulted our top search result to https, so visitors coming via that link never got the basket cookie with the setting on http-only.

I've now put the setting to http+https, but if that is going to alert McAfee Secure scanning, could you give a brief overview of what I should change--when and where I should use http vs https?

I have reports of a similar problem;
My customer says that when they try to add another product, the first product is gone from the cart.

When I tried it just now and tried to change the quantity in the cart, I got a fatal error:

Miva Merchant has encountered a fatal error and is unable to continue. The following information may assist you in determining the cause of the error: Error Code: MER-00006 Description: Unable to load requested Basket Item. Some or all of the Basket Contents may no longer be available. Other Information:

Is there any harm to using the "Set on both HTTP and HTTPS connections, without secure flag" as a permanent solution?

You'll fail PCI Scans and it's not a best practice security wise.
