DTD Error on the CHASE Paymentech Orbital Gateway

Encountered the following error for the 1st time when trying to issue a refund in Miva Admin via the CHASE Paymentech Orbital Gateway.

"Refund Failed: Request does not adhere to the DTD. Please correct and send again."

Anybody have an idea what that means and how how to fix it?

Is the order from outside to USA?

Chase Paymentech payment processing may fail with international orders when the customer's issuing bank is using a different currency

We've also seen a new issue with this where they're treating Chase branded cards with unique card types (instead of visa, MasterCard, etc) and those refunds are failing from admin but can be done via the orbital Gateway admin.

We're waiting on some clarity from Chase so we can fix it since there's nothing in their API docs about it.

This is a known issue that is occurring when the cardholder has a Chase-branded credit card or Chase Signature Debit/Prepaid card. Chase made a change on their gateway for those card types where instead of the traditional code to indicate Visa or Mastercard, they use the code CZ for a Chase credit card, or CR for a Signature Debit or Prepaid card. We believe what's occurring is that Chase is making changes to facilitate what will ultimately be not sending Visa/MC transactions through Visa/MC and instead keep it all internal to avoid the processing fees.

For the time being, you'll need to process that refund via their interface.

Our developers have made contact about this and are waiting to hear back; they needed some additional questions answered before a proper update can be published.

Thanks for the updates on this known issue. I did the refund via the orbital Gateway admin w/o any issues.

Is it too much to hope for that savings from the avoidance of future processing fees will be passed on to us merchants?

I'd certainly hope that is what comes of it, but being an eternal pessimist when it comes to the credit card industry, my guess is they will use the savings to pump up the 'rewards' card programs even further, which of course merchants pay for via higher transaction fees already, while cardholders think hey this just keeps getting better!

Yes but the solution isn't on our end. If you can email me the Merchant ID for the account getting the issue, we submit a ticket to Chase (who accidentally tagged the account to ChaseNet) and they'll "untag it".

We thought we had fixed all the known cases and thus far they haven't offered a permanent fix on their end.
