Is there a trick way to discount a default variant?

Hello,

If I created a default variant with parts like
Table Qty 1
Chair Qty 4

Price = Sum of Parts (which I can get from price value I think)

Is there a way to discount the price easily (because it is a kit)?

Would you suggest creating a custom field called Set Discount and having some code in the Prod Display area that says
If custom field set discount is not zero, then assign price the price value * (1 - discount)

It would be great to have a discount field in the default variant menu.

Please give me any suggestions.

Are you definitely running version 5.5? On version 9, you can control this via a Price Group.

I am on 5.5 at the moment and I do not think price groups is the best approach.

I was thinking in terms of some code.

Are you using the Kit module by Emporium Plus? That will let you build a kit and provide a discount.

Note that they won't be adding any more features to version 5.5, and you are correct, Price Groups in version 5.5 will not do this (they do in v9).

As Pamela mentioned, you can do quite a bit now with price group/coupon combinations in Miva 9.
