What email do you use for "Contact Us"?

Trying to get ideas on what to do with ours. Right now, it does weird things when the Contact Us email is selected, so I need to change that.

What do you use and how do you implement it? I need ideas as to which way to go.

Thanks for your input - much appreciated!

That's a fairly ambigious question...but if you mean what system to you use for a contact us form...there are several modules available to automate this, or use a free script available all over the web...you place the form post from that script in a new Merchant page, and make sure you load the script functions in the right directory (probably at least below the /mm5 directory -- and make sure that directory is protected). Personally, I'd go with one of the modules unless you have an afternoon or two to kill.)

The easiest thing is to use a module that is designed for that purpose. Make sure it hides your email address from people who harvest addresses from the web. In addition to that, use some sort of input to trip up the automated spammers that insert crap into forms in hopes of posting links and messages to a message board which can be indexed by the search engines. Take a look at the contact us form at

It has those features and more.

We use service@ and customerservice@ and webmaster@ and the email comes through directly. This is NOT the way to go. A ridiculous amount of spam comes through. Webmaster is almost all spam, the others are half spam half legit and occassionaly legit emails end up in junk mail. We also have issues, especially with yahoo email accounts, with customers not receiving our responses.

Yeah, I guess I need to change the setup.

Re: What email do you use for "Contact Us"?

we use service@ (lots of spam like Nina said) throughout the site. We also have a contact form that allows customer to choose the nature of their question and we'll fill in the target e-mail for them. For those, we use backorders, shipping, returns, technical, accounts and a couple more. Technical is another that gets a decent amount of spam.

I've seen other sites use help@, cs@, custserv@, etc. My opinion is that it is important to have a least 1 email address that you can print everywhere, and the rest can be handled by a form so that they can't be harvested.

I also recommend Spam Guardian (it rocks) and a good e-mail system like eSupport to help manage it all. I have a buddy that also uses gmail for his store's email and swears by it.

If we are talking about WHAT email names to use, you just have to face that Spam is a cost of doing business. You need to have email addresses that are obvious, and ones that SPAM purveyours are going to guess at. As Brandon mentions, invest in good SPAM filtering...live with the rest.

Oh, and don't use "positive response" systems. Your *former* customers wont.
