Re: Order management software with POS.

Barney, if 5 workstations are running OM and one of the workstations has downloaded and make changes to order information.... are all 5 workstations seeing the updated information?

Yes. The Order Manager program gets installed on each workstation, but they are all connected to a shared database (either Microsoft Access for the Standard and Plus POS versions or SQL Server for the Enterprise Version), so they are all seeing and working on the same data.

        A few more questions Barney...

If OM is on a notebook (mac, so we'd have to run fusion and access to make this work) and using the POS at an art fair....

        1. Assuming we have an internet connection, are the other workstations back at the office updated as we use the POS?

        2. When next connected to MIVA would inventories be automatically adjusted based on the sales made via POS at the art fair?

        Thanks!

That's not a very good way to operate. The Order Manager at the office would not be updated automatically, although Miva could be updated in real-time if you have an active Internet connection at the art fair.

The best way to handle that situation is with our Road Trips & Trade Shows feature, which is part of the Enterprise Version of the Order Manager. That feature lets you create Road Trips, each with one or more Trade Shows. You check out the inventory that you take with you. While you are on the road, the inventory that you have with you is not available on your Miva store. At the end of the trip, you check any remaining inventory back in, at which time it becomes available again. You can read about that feature in our Knowledge Base at:

          http://www.stoneedge.com/help/OM_DOC...rade_Shows.htm

Another alternative is to close your office while you are on the road, so the copy of your data that you take with you is the "live" data, although obviously that is not always practical.

            Hi there, Barney:

            1) Say you have two Miva Merchant web sites, and many of the items are the same, but the Product Code used by the two stores is different. Would that be a problem?

Or does Order Manager require that the product code be the same across different Miva Merchant stores?

It is generally easier if the product codes (we call them "SKUs") are the same. However, the Order Manager does let you set up "Alternate SKUs". For example, you have a product that uses the product code "ABC001" in one of your stores, so you make that the "real" SKU. In a different store, you call that item "XYZ987", and in a third store it is "1010101". You could set up XYZ987 and 1010101 as Alternate SKUs for ABC001. If you import an order that includes XYZ987 or 1010101, the program will change it to ABC001. The only limitation is that each Alternate SKU must be unique and cannot be the same as any regular SKU.

That will work fine for importing orders and doing inventory tracking for your own in-house purposes (reorder, etc.). However, the program currently cannot update the QOH for alternate SKUs, so real-time inventory tracking in your stores would be a problem. We have been talking about solving that, but it can get pretty complex, so I'm not making any promises about it.

                  Hi Remik,

Since you have mentioned LightSpeed, do you have any experience with it? Do you know if there is a Miva Merchant connector for it?

                  Many thanks!

Re: Order management software with POS.

My experience with LightSpeed is limited to just seeing it used in a local retail store. I'm not familiar with any Miva connectors for it, but if I recall - it runs on mySQL database on the back-end, which means you could write all sorts of data exchange between LightSpeed and Miva Merchant really easily and quickly.

Thanks Remik - that means I may be looking for a developer that could write all sorts of data exchange between LightSpeed and Miva Merchant really easily and quickly.
