Christine, check with your gateway. Many offer the ability to create "reference transactions" from an original transaction, allowing you to create an additional charge to the card without needing the number.

Rick, have you guys ever checked out how Magento incorporates their more advanced shipping features? We work with that platform on top of Miva and I believe it does allow the customer to break their single order down so they can ship it to different locations, and also allows them to do most of the things this thread outlines.

Just an FYI. I'm surprised you guys haven't been going through that platform in the background like crazy lifting ideas. It's by far the most feature rich platform on the market, although it's buggy as hell and support is lacking, which is where you guys will likely always have a leg up on them.

I've logged into a Magento admin one time and was a bit lost (although I'm sure people the first time logging into Miva Merchant have a similar experience, it's kind of like playing with Photoshop without knowing anything) and I'm sure no one on my development team has ever looked at Magento.

I believe that the kitchen sink approach they've taken is why it'll always be buggy and hard to support and what we consider to be a key advantage. Sure there are people who would rather quit our platform then spend $40 on a module but I'm not really sure they're the type of client we're looking for.

With that said however, we are keenly aware of making sure we continue to improve our product and push the envelope on adding new features etc.

The features in this thread are a logical extension of what we've added into Wombat so it would make sense that we would incorporate them.

As for timing and what's coming out in 2010, well you'll need to come to the Conference next month :)

Re: Split order into multiple shipments module

Rick, just wanted to make sure anyone that stumbles upon this thread knows that Magento is HORRIBLE, especially for small business.

My mention of some of its features was more a stupid observation, as I have always been curious of whether or not you guys research other platforms by actually running and researching them in house for ideas.

Magento's support is non-existent the average small to medium sized business would just about cripple their ecommerce presence by using it because not only is it "buggy", but some of those bugs cause complete breakdowns of the installation, and where you guys stand behind your installations (as do all of us hosting partners), no one supports magento. And by no one, I mean NO ONE. If your installation breaks, your stuck with virtually non-existent email support, or forums for help.

It was wombat that made me think of this feature to begin with. Is this something that may eventually be added for 2010 or is that too soon?
            Thanks,
            Christine

2010 isn't out of the question, we're finalizing our roadmap right now and will be announcing it at the conference.

This is something we'd be interested in too, whether as a module or as a built-in feature
Looking for work as of March 2024! I've been a web developer for going on 20 years, with most of that time spent on Miva sites.

ok. So we are at 4 users that would like this feature. Anyone else interested?
                  Thanks,

                    Hey Guys,
I'm just picking up on this. We do have a need for something like this and would definitely be using it if it were available.

                    Cheers!
