    License Problems

    Help!
I've been using MM5 for several weeks.
I am now getting the following error when I try to log into admin:
    Admin Error:
"Your license MVC-7?????????A was de-activated and you may no longer access your store administration. The shopping interface is still active. If you feel the you have received this message in error, please contact Miva Support or your server administrator."

"Most recent validation message: Unable to communicate with Miva License Manager: Unable to open URL 'https://licensing2.smallbusiness.miva.com/gateway/gateway.mv': Error establishing SSL connection: certificate verify failed "

I can't even get into the store now to make any changes. Suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Contact your host or MIVA Support.

In this case the host will probably be the one that needs to resolve this. The license starts with MVC meaning it's a retail license from Miva directly; the problem is that the store has been unable to contact Miva's license server due to the SSL issue for 30 days.

That's the problem. My host doesn't know why we can't connect to Miva's license server. The error message doesn't help much.

Could it be a problem with my SSL? Wrong kind?

MIVA support just says to re-install MM5. Can I do that without losing all of the existing data?

Don't listen to Miva support, that's completely wrong; reinstalling wouldn't make the store any more able to connect to them than it can now. :)

I'd double check that the server has all the appropriate cert files from the Miva Empresa engine's certs directory that comes with the download of the Empresa. Also, can you see if you can get the host to tell you what operating system and version your site is running on? And what version of the "Miva Engine" did your store show you as running when you were still able to log in, if you remember? Or get your host to tell you which version of Empresa you have.

I'm surprised Miva support did not have you load the diagnostic utility, it would have provided the same SSL error which would then indicate the issue is not related to Merchant itself.

There is NO reason to re-install MM5. That would be a waste of time.

You're host should have the knowledge to test from the server to see why the communication is not happening.

              Thanks for your help!
Yes, I did upload the diagnostic file during one of my many calls to support.

This is what I get under "License Manager Call:

              MIVA Virtual Machine 5.04 - Apache/1.3.33 (Unix) PHP/5.0.4

FailUnable to open URL 'https://licensing.smallbusiness.miva.com/gateway/gateway.mv': Error establishing SSL connection: certificate verify failed
Unable to open URL 'https://licensing2.smallbusiness.miva.com/gateway/gateway.mv': Error establishing SSL connection: certificate verify failed
Unable to open URL 'https://licensemgr.miva.com/gateway/gateway.mv': Error establishing SSL connection: certificate verify failed
              http://licensemgr.miva.com/gateway/gateway.mv
              http://licensemgr2.miva.com/gateway/gateway.mv

Miva Support says that my license was never activated, so maybe they thought a re-install would activate it.
              It's obviously a connection problem.
I'll check with my host regarding Empresa engines's cert directory. Are there certain SSL certs that Miva doesn't recognize?

When you run diag, is SSL available?

                s.miva_sslavailable: 1
                or
                s.miva_sslavailable: 0

You did not mention who your host is, so it could be a firewall issue as well. If it's one of MIVA's partners, I would say that is most likely NOT the case.

When you have an issue like this, it's 1 of a few things:
                1. OpenSSL is not configured correctly or not even configured
                2. certs are not configured correctly
                3. firewall blocking outbound on port 443

I am sorry you were misinformed by support. Re-installing would not clear this up at all. If you can provide any details of the call, please send it to me in a private message. I need to address this with the support supervisor and technician.

I'd be more inclined to lead towards the first 2.

Either OpenSSL is not installed or properly installed, or the mivavm.conf is not pointed to the certs directory correctly.

Oh I agree, I just did not want to leave out the possibility of it being a firewall issue.

There are certain certs that it may not recognize by default but there are normally ways around that. I haven't seen that to be the cause of the problem when talking to Miva themselves though if the certs directory is complete.

Host says it's not a firewall issue.

                        Diag5 says: s.miva_sslavailable: 1
Does that mean OpenSSL is configured?

It appears that the SSL cert we have doesn't match the root certs provided with Empresa. How do we resolve this?

                        Thanks for your help!

This is not related to your SSL cert in any way. The error is occurring when Miva Empresa tries to make an SSL connection from itself to Miva's license server. When it tries to establish the connection, it should be finding the appropriate root certificate to match Miva's SSL cert in its certs folder. It may not be finding it, but the problem could also be related to the server config or operating system.

It could still mean OpenSSL is not configured correctly. I have seen many sites with the same indications and showing SSL available only to go in and reconfigure the libssl and libcrypto tags in the configuration file myself and everything works fine. MIVA can fix this for you, but it would require shell access to the server. That is entirely up to your host. I do not know who the host is, but if they are a MIVA Partner, you get free support. You just need to contact them and have them open up a support ticket with us.

                              I have a similar problem.

I have several miva merchants installed (4.34), and I recently installed a version 5 (running empresa 5.04).

It installed fine and registered fine.... months ago.

I am now out of testing mode and trying to change my domain in domain settings. I'm getting the same error about establishing a secured connection to miva's licensing server.

I don't know how it worked when first installed, but all my other miva stores (which of course, have a secured cert), work fine to change the domain settings and update thru miva's registration server.

Just with this new store, which doesn't have any certs yet, won't work to update with the licensing server.

                              If you go to https://licensing2.smallbusiness.miv...way/gateway.mv
in a browser, it says their cert is not valid. I dunno (since my other ones work), but could this be an issue in merchant 5? Does my server, or merchant not like the fact that miva's cert is not valid?

                              Just throwing out some ideas.
