DNS on Cloudflare

Client is intending to switch to Cloudflare for DNS. The process is saying remove the Miva nameservers from the registrar and add the CF nameservers. Makes sense. Does the DNS records need to be added to Cloudflare or will Cloudflare copy them for the client?

It's been a while since I have done this for a client but don't recall that screen. I've always had to enter the DNS records in Cloudflare first before changing the nameservers at the registrar.

Cloudflare will attempt to copy all common records, but they will not know to look for anything that isn't typical, so it's best to validate each record is correct before updating the domain's name servers.

Follow up: I doubt this would work, but, can the NS records be the only records needed? So, registrar points to CF and CF points to Miva nameservers? The idea here, simp0licity for client and or until I can get access to the CF account to verify the records.

That won't work.

The alternative is Cloudflare Business plans allow you to point only a CNAME record at them, where your name servers remain what they were, if you choose to use that option. The Free and Pro plans mandate name servers be changed to theirs.

We added Cloudflare Pro at the beginning of June. Miva had to do some internal configuration for it to work. It was hit and miss but is most working now except we cannot upload any file. Uploads hang. Cloudflare is the suspected cause.

This means we cannot upload the XML file for the GA4 update in 10.07. Very frustrating! Waiting to hear back from Miva tech support.

On the bright side, with Cloudflare we are not getting bogus customer accounts or forms so it is stopping the bots. We decided against using captcha. However, if the upload problem cannot be resolved, Cloudflare Pro may not be a good solution.

I've configured a few stores for the CDN features on Pro. Not sure this applies. Can you FTP the files? Off the top of my head you might need to create a rule or a pass through in DNS for anything that doesn't get cached like FTP.

CF should not interfere with uploads unless the WAF is stopping it because it thinks its some type of attack attempt.

ids Yes, I can ftp files just fine. Thank you for the suggestion. I do not know how to create a rule like that unfortunately. CF seemed to so easy to implement at first.

So far the result is: the front end works nicely. However, we can't access admin.mvc. I'm not sure what except that maybe I am missing something. I made a page rule for admin.mvc and also create IP access in WAF. Also, SSL for the admin url isn't recognized as valid for some reason. This is the first non-pro (free) CF account I've configured but there isn't anything here that needs the Pro level.

If this was not configured by our staff I would not really have any idea what could be set. I'd recommend getting in touch with support and inviting someone from here to the account to go over the settings. We can also alter the admin URL to the recommended configuration of differing from the shopper-facing URL.

Turns out the simple solution to the issue, not in my notes, the Page Rule setting: SSL => Full is needed.

Also, there was a whitelist WAF custom rule I didn't know about. This seemed to fix some other issues with the Checkout we ran into.

We have been unable to use the Data Management tools to upload or import since adding Cloudflare. For example, add/update products via CSV and the XML import did not work. These processes just hung. Never finished.

Cloudflare DNS configuration did not need changing.

Leanne suggested adding <mvt:comment></mvt:comment> to the HEAD Tag Content section. This has fixed both problems. (Thank you again!)
