    Feedback on Square payment integration

Given the most recent new Square payments integration push, I wanted to share some of my real time experience with the payment platform.
I have used Square payments in one of my Miva stores for about 2 years and always struggled with their stubborn way of doing things different than any other payment processor.
The often complicated nature of my products require me to authorize only and capture after order the order is reviewed.

I do not know if anything has to do with what type of account you have with Square but one issue I immediately ran into is that Square did not allow me to change the authorized amount in any way. Not up is somewhat understandable, although most processors allow up within a certain percentage, but not being able to adjust the amount down is totally ridiculous. Whether it is a product switch or deletion or simply a shipping cost adjustment, there are many times the final capture can be lower than the authorized amount. Square forces you to capture the full amount and then issue a refund.

The second issue I saw is that, other than AVS, there is no card fraud indication whatsoever unless you actually capture. After capture, sometimes hours later, a high risk message would come in about that order. That's great but by then there is chance the order has already been packed or shipped.
Card fraud indicators are abysmal with pretty much all payment processors, I am guessing the chargeback fees collected are a nice incentive to keep things blurry, but Square in particular does not make it easy.

I ended up switching back to Paypal processing but I can see how Square's POS integration with a Miva store can be a real boon.

    cheers

Yes, it would be. I've had a few clients move off the platform to natively take advantage of it.
