    A whole new world

I subscribed to the list and rarely posted. Although there are mixed emotions and opinions about the forums from the last messages on the list I think it is actually a positive thing. I usually had to go through all the messages to find the ones that interested me and when I finally decided to start posting it was short term because they went off topic from the general discussion rather quickly. Sometimes replies that were intended to be private became public and vice versa. But often my mailbox would fill with messages that were not relevant to what I was searching for. In addition the archives on the Miva site are cumbersome and time consuming to research.

Although some of those who are regulars and buddies on the list may find this less cozy at first, for those of us - I must not be the only observer - who were lurkers and just monitored the threads and only responded when necessary this will be better. In the long run it will be easier to find topics that are relevant and ignore the others and filtering through and managing mailboxes will be a lot easier.

This is the smartest decision by Miva in a long, long time.

As a long time contributor, I have to take the opposite stance.

Its much more difficult and less timely to reply to questions.

I dont care for the latest posts to be on the bottom, rather than the top, like the forum index allow. I'd rather see new posts on top so I dont have to scroll through many messages. It may not be an issue now...but later when an active thread has 5 pages, it will be a problem.

It would be nice if the screen would refresh now and then too, and had better alerting of new posts. Like the drop down in QuickLinks if it had an option just to show new posts, rather than "Today's Posts".

I havent been impressed with many of the changes MIVA has made in the last couple years since the "buy out", but with the personnel that is now in place, I hope this track record of tripping over its own feet has come to an end...and we can actually see some progress here.

I couldn't fix all of your wishes, Vic, but I did make one tweak for you. :D

I tend to agree. There were usually so many messages in the list, I just scanned through them occasionally. Often times, the message no longer had anything to do with the subject line, yet I had no way to turn that thread off.

A good example is the list server thread: Announcement: New MIVA Community Tool on the Horizon.

It started off about this forum, then talking about beer, and now about pictures of people bouncing off walls. Yes, it was funny, but not really helpful.

I understand your position. We come from opposite ends of the spectrum with respect to the list. If I was in your position I would probably feel the same way.

However I do agree with you wholeheartedly about Miva's decisions. I have not been very happy with a lot of them. That is why I said this forum was the smartest decision in a long, long time. No, it's not that smart, but compared to some of the others it is pure genius.
